COVID-19 Policy

 

DARLING PRIMARY COVID-19 POLICY / LAERSKOOL DARLING COVID-19 BELEID:

 

 

  1. PURPOSE / DOEL:
    1. The purpose of this policy is to guide the School Governing Body, principal, staff, parents and learners on the implementation process for the re-opening of schools on 1 June 2020 as stipulated by the SOP For The Prevention-Containment and Management of COVID-19 in Schools and School Communities; Department of Basic Education (DBE).

 

  1. Die doel van hierdie beleid is om vir die Skool Beheerraad, skoolhoof, personeel, ouers en leerders riglyne te stel vir die implementering van die heropening van skole op 1 Junie 2020 soos uiteengesit deur die SOP vir die Voorkoming-Inperking en Bestuur van COVID-19 in skole en die skoolgemeenskap; Departement van Basiese Onderwys (DBO).

 

  1. FIRST PHASE / EERSTE FASE:
    1. All staff members and learners need to be orientated on Covid-19 hygiene and safety protocol at Darling Primary:  

             Establish a COVID-19 committee in the school.

  1. Principals must orientate the SMT before teachers return to school.
  2. The principal must designate a member of the SMT to orientate teachers and non-teaching staff when they return.
  3. Learners must be orientated as the grades are phased in.

 

  1. Elke personeel lid en leerder moet ingelig word oor COVID-19 tesame met die higiëniese- en veiligheidsmaatreëls wat

             daarmee gepaard gaan, by Laerskool Darling: Stel n COVID-19 kommittee aan by die skool.

  1. Die skoolhoof is verantwoordelik vir die vooraf oriëntasie van die skool bestuurspan voordat die onderwysers terugkeer.
  2. Die skoolhoof is verantwoordelik om iemand van die skool bestuurspan as die aangewese beampte aan te stel om te

             oriënteer met onderwysers en nie-onderwysers wanneer hulle terugkeer.

  1. Oriëntasie moet met leerlinge gedoen word soos die grade terugkeer.   

 

  1. ORIENTATION / ORIëNTASIE:
    1. The orientation must cover the history of COVID-19 and how the coronavirus spreads as explained by the DBE.

3.1.     Die oriëntasie moet die agtergrond van COVID-19 en die verspreiding daarvan noukeurig verduidelik soos uiteengesit deur    die DBO.

 

  1. THE FIVE IMPORTANT ‘GOLDEN’ RULES / DIE VYF BELANGRIKE ‘GOUE’ REëLS:

            Apllicable to everybody attach to Darling Primary to prevent the spread of Covid-19 / Op toepassing van Laerskool Dalring om die verspreiding van Covid-19 te voorkom.

 

  1. Separate yourself physically from other people:
  2. By staying away from people as much as possible.
  3. By staying home if unwell.

 

  1. Physical distancing when around other people:
  • Keep a distance of at least 1.5 meters (2 arm lengths) from others.
  • Do NOT shake hands, hug, fist bump or elbow bump. Keep your distance.

 

  1. Hand washing /sanitizing:
  • Regular hand washing with soap and water for 20 seconds.
  • Or rub hands with alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Wash hands after touching people, surfaces and objects.

 

  1. Practicing good hygiene measures:
  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow or a tissue and then put the tissue in a bin and wash your hands immediately.
  • Do not touch your face with unwashed hands.

 

  1. Using cloth face masks:
  • Use a cloth face mask to cover your nose and mouth.
  • Don’t touch the mask after you put it on.
  • Leave the mask on all the time except when you need to eat/drink.
  • For eating/drinking, take off the cloth carefully by the strings and place it in a clean paper or plastic bag.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  •  If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Wear your cloth face mask at all times.
  • Wash your cloth face mark in warm water and iron it.

 

  1. Handhaaf n fisiese afstand tussen jou en ander mense:
  • Deur so min as moontlik rondom mense te wees.
  • Deur by die huis te bly as jy siek is / siek voel.

 

  1. Metode van fisiese distansie tussen mense:
  • Handhaaf n distansie van 1.5 meter tussen jou en die ander persoon.
  • Moenie handskud, omhels, vuisgroet of elmboog groet nie.
  • Behou jou distansie te alle tye.

 

  1. Was / sanitasie van jou hande:
  • Was jou hande gereeld met skoon lopende water en seep vir minstens 20 sekondes.
  • Of vryf jou hande met n alkohol bevattende saniteermiddel.
  • Was jou hande elke keer as jy met mense in aanraking gekom het of met oppervlaktes en voorwerpe kontak gemaak het.

 

  1. Beoefen goeie en gesonde higiëniese gewoontes:
  • Hoes of nies in die holte van jou elmboog of in n weggooi sneesdoekie wat onmiddellik in n drom gegooi moet word.
  • Was hierna jou hande onmiddellik met lopende water en seep vir ten minste 20 sekondes of vryf jou hande met n

              alkohol bevattende saniteermiddel.

  • Moenie aan jou gesig, neus, mond en oë raak as jy nie jou hande gewas het nie.

 

  1. Die gebruik van gesig maskers:
  • Die gebruik van n gesig masker moet jou mond en neus te alle tye bedek.
  • Moenie die gesig masker hanteer, behalwe as dit absoluut nodig is, nadat jy dit op gesit het nie.
  • Hou die gesig masker op te alle tye, behalwe as jy moet eet of drink.
  • Wanneer eet of drink, verwyder die gesig masker baie versigtig deur slegs gebruik te maak van rekkies aan weerskante van die

             gesig masker en plaas dit op n skoon /higiëniese papier /plastiek.

  • Onthou om jou hande vir 20 sekondes lank met lopende water en seep te was voor jy eet / drink en jou gesig masker hanteer.
  • Indien daar nie lopende water en seep is nie; vryf jou hande met ‘n alkohol bevattende saniteer middel.
  • Dra jou lap gesig masker te alle tye.
  • Was jou lap gesig masker in warm water elke dag en stryk dit.

 

 

  1. ACCESSORIES AVAILABLE AND PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL / ITEMS BESKIKBAAR EN VOORSIEN DEUR DIE SKOOL

 

  • Sufficient supply of hand sanitizer, soap, paper towels, waste paper bins and other cleaning materials.
  • Alcohol based hand sanitizer at designated points.
  • Providing alcohol based hand sanitizer for each staff member if they have to move around within the workplace.
  • At least 2 cloth face masks per staff member and learner.
  • Posters of the 5 golden rules and other tips will be displayed at the screening areas and throughout the school building. Staff

             and learners must read and obey these rules and tips the whole time they are present at the school.

  • Screening at designated points.

 

  • Genoegsame voorraad soos hand saniteermiddel, seep, papier handdoeke, papierdromme en alle ander relavante

             skoonmaakmiddels.

  • Alkohol bevattende hand saniteermiddels by aangewese punte.
  • Voorsien alkohol bevattende hand saniteermiddels aan personeel as dit vereis word van hulle om tussen klasse te beweeg.
  • Voorsien elke personeel lid en leerder van ten minste 2 lap gesig maskers.
  • Plakkate van die vyf goue reëls en ander inligtingstukke moet by elke aangewese punt asook orals by die skool opgeplak wees

             sodat die personeel en leerders te alle tye daarvan bewus is en dit gehoorsaam tydens skoolbywoning.

  • Skandering by aangewese punte.

 

  1. RULES FOR STAFF AND LEARNERS WHEN: / REëLS VIR PERSONEEL EN LEERDERS:
    1. They are at home and when leaving home:
  • Adhere to the rules mentioned in point 4 above.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay at home when you have an abnormal cough, a fever, struggling with shortness of breath and have a sore throat. If

             you have any of these conditions please inform the school and consult the COVID-19 hotline 021 928 4102. Do not come

              to the school till you have been cleared by a doctor.

  • Wear your mask.

6.1.      Wanneer jy by die huis en as jy die huis verlaat:

  • Gehoorsaam die reels soos uiteengesit in punt 4 hierbo.
  • Vermy kontak met mense wat siek is.
  • Bly by die huis as jy n abnormale hoes het, n koors het, sukkel om asem te haal en of n seer keel het. Indien jy enige van

              hierdie simptome het, lig die skool in en kontak die Covid-19 hulplyn 021 928 4102 vir verdere instruksies.

  • Moenie skool toe kom voordat jy nie deur n geneesheer Koronavirus vry verklaar is nie.
  • Dra jou masker te alle tye.

 

  1. They are on their way to and from school:
  • Adhere to the rules in point 4 above.
  • It is important to practice social distancing and good hygiene to prevent becoming infected if you are walking to school.

             Try to keep at least a 1.5 meter distance between you and another person walking to school.

  • According to the regulation, all public transport operators must ensure that transport is sanitized before and after use

             and observe the new prescribed passenger capacity to curb the spread of the Coronavirus (2019-NCOV).

  • Sanitize your hands before entering and after disembarking from the public transport.
  • Wear your mask.

 

  1.      Wanneer jy op pad en vanaf skool is:
  • Gehoorsaam die reëls soos uiteengesit in punt 4 hierbo.
  • Beoefen goeie en gesonde higiëniese sosiale distansie op pad skool toe. Handhaaf n distansie van 1,5 meter tussen jou

                 en die ander persoon.

  • Volgens die regulasies moet alle bestuurders van openbare vervoer seker maak dat sy/haar voertuig behoorlik       

 gesaniteer is voor- en nadat passasiers vervoer was asook die voorgeskrewe passasiers kapasiteit in ag neem om die

verspreiding van Covid-19 te verhoed.

  • Saniteer jou hande voor en nadat jy van publieke vervoer gebruik gemaak het.
  • Dra jou masker te alle tye.

 

  1. When you arrive at school:
  • Upon the return to school of a particular grade, the principal and teachers conduct the orientation of learners on the

             management of the Coronavirus (2019-NCOV) at school.

  • Identify before-hand the need for volunteers to assist with the implementation, but in adherence with Covid-19

              regulations.

  • Distribute once off a minimum of two cloth masks per staff member and learner on arrival.
  • Explain and conduct the screening process to the staff and learners.
  • Everybody use one designated entrance.
  • Conduct the screening questionnaire.

  • If the subject answers any of the questions in a way that could mean they have Covid-19, or has a temperature higher

than 38 degrees Celsius, they will become a person under investigation and will be isolated and referred for testing.

  • Darling Primary must identify a room which can be used to isolate suspected cases and people under investigation for

local health authorities.

  • Extra precautions must be taken with learners and staff who have pre-existing conditions and staff who are over the age

             of 60 with one or more chronic illness. Such staff and learners should be allowed to work from home.  

  • Conduct an orientation for learners which should include the “Golden Rules”.
  • Orientate learners on the changed curriculum plan.
  • Introduce the reviewed school time table, new class lists and the subdivision of classes, if needed.
  • Brief learners on social distancing at school, travelling to and from school.
  • Explain that learners must wash hands before school-meals which should be served in classrooms or in a controlled

             environment outside - observing social distancing at all times.

  • Motivate learners on their return to school.
  • Learners will be given allocated playing area per class group where they may play and socialize during break and before

             school. Social distancing and the wearing of a mask must be adhere to at all times while outside the classroom.

 

  1.      Wanneer jy by die skool arriveer:
  • Die skoolhoof en onderwysers moet soos die grade ingefaseer word, die leerders oriënteer met betrekking tot die bestuur

van die Coronavirus (2019-NCOV) by die skool.

  • Identifiseer vroegtydig die behoefte  van vrywillige werkers om die implimentering van Covid-19 by die skool te verseker;

  • Laerskool Darling moet n aangewese kamer volgens die Gesondheidsregulasies waar persone geisoleer

             kan word vir sulke gevalle vir verdere ondersoek.

  • Die versigtigheidsmaatreël moet toepas word met personeel en leerders wie erkende siekte toestande het in een of meer

       chroniese siektes asook personeel wie ouer as 60 is. Hierdie betrokke personeel en leerders moet aangemoedig word om    

             vanaf die huis te onderrig en / of onderrig te ontvang.

  • Oriëntasie asook die 5 ‘goue reëls moet met leerders in diepte en noukeurig behandel word.
  • Behandel die veranderde kurrikulum behoorlik met die leerders.
  • Behandel die hersiende skoolprogram, nuwe klasrooster en die onderverdeling van klasse, indien nodig.
  • Lig leerders behoorlik  in met betrekking tot sosiale distansiëring by die skool asook vervoer na en van die skool.
  • Verduidelik aan leerders die belangrikheid van behoorlike hande was voor skool etes, wat slegs bedien sal word in n

              klaskamer en / of n beskermde omgewing buite die skoolgebou waar sosiale distansie te alle tye in ag geneem sal word.

  • Motiveer leerders om terug te kom skool toe.
  • Wys n aangewese speelarea vir leerders aan wat toegeken sal word per klas waar hulle voor skool en tydens pouses kan

              speel en sosialiseer met mede skoliere waar sosiale distansie toegepas sal word asook die dra van ‘n masker.

 

 

 

  1. What to do if a COVID-19 case is confirmed:

 

  • Comply with the BASIC EDUCATION STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE (SOP) as stipulated under points (5.3); (5.3.1); (5.4); (5.4.1); (5.4.2); (5.5); (5.5.1); (5.5.2); (5.5.3); (5.5.4); (5.5.5).
  • This procedures must be available in a file.

 

  • Gehoorsaam die voorskrifte soos uiteengesit in die BASIESE ONDERWYS STANDAARD OPERASIONELE PLAN (SOP); punte (5.3); (5.3.1); (5.4); (5.4.1); (5.4.2); (5.5); (5.5.1); (5.5.2); (5.5.3); (5.5.4); (5.5.5).
  • Hierdie prosedures moet op in leêr beskikbaar gehou word.

 

  1. Learner Transport:
  • Important: The Department of Transport is responsible for all legislation; regulations; licensing and enforcement when it

             comes to the transportation of learners to and from school.

  • All vehicles will need to abide by the regulations already present for public transport; including:
  1. Must be cleaned and disinfected before and after the transportation of learners.
  2. This includes door and window handles; armrest and handrails.
  3.  All drivers and passengers must wear masks.
  4. Hand sanitizers with at least 60% alcohol content must be available in the vehicle.
  5. The responsible person coordinating the transport must ensure that learners sanitize their hands before entering and after

              exiting.

  1. The driver must abide by the law pertaining social distance and amount of passengers inside the vehile.

 

6.5      Vervoer van leerders:

  • Baie belangrik: Die Departement van Vervoer is verantwoordellik vir wetgewing; regulasies; lisensieëring en die uitvoering

             daarvan m.b.t. vervoer van skoliere na en van skool.

  • Alle voertuigeienaars moet die wetgewing en regulasies gehoorsaam wat alreeds uiteen gesit is vir publieke vervoer; wat

              ook die volgende in sluit:

  1. Dit moet skoon gemaak en ontsmet word voor- en nadat skoliere vervoer word.
  2. Dit sluit in deur-, vensterhandvatsels, sitplek- en handreëlings.
  3.  Alle bestuurders en passasiers moet maskers dra.
  4. Hand saniteermiddels wat minstens 60% alkohol bevat moet binne die voertuig beskikbaar is.
  5. Die bestuurder moet verseker dat leerlinge hulle hande saniteer voor en na die rit.
  6. Bestuurders moet verseker dat sosiale distansie en die voorgeskrewe getal passasiers soos deur die regulasie voorgeskryf;

              streng nagekom word.

 

  1. PROTOCOL IN CLASSROOMS / PROTOKOL IN KLASKAMERS:
  • Place 60% alcohol based hand sanitizers in each classroom at the entrances and exits at the reception / front office and

              near lunchrooms, paper towels.

  • Always create maximum ventilation by keeping open the door and windows.
  • Maintain social distance: Learners to be 1.5m apart from each other.
  • Learners must not rotate: Teachers must move between lessons.
  • Learners must at all times wear their masks in the class, properly.
  • Teachers must utilize the first 5min to inform learners about the ‘Five Golden Rules’.
  • Learner discipline in class is fundamental and teachers must prevent learners from prevent crowding in toilets and outside

             on the playing grounds.

  • Staff, computer and photocopying room:
  1. These rooms are still available and staff may use it as normal while adhering to social distancing rules and only enter after

             you have wash or sanitized your hands.

  1. Staff must bring their own cup for tea and coffee.
  2. After the use of any equipment it is required that you sanitize that equipment after use.
  3. Sanitizer and wipes will be available to assist you with cleaning after use.

 

  • Plaas n 60% alkohol bevattende saniteermiddel in elke klas; by die ingang en uitgang; die

            voorportaal en eetkamers; met papier handdoeke.

  • Behou te alle tye n distansie van 1.5m tussen leerders.
  • Handhaaf maksimum ventilasie deur die deure en vensters van vertrekke oop te hou.
  • Leerders moenie klasse wissel tussen periodes nie, maar wel onderwysers.
  • Leerders moet te alle tye hulle maskers volgens voorskrif dra.
  • Die eerste 5 minute van klas moet deur onderwysers gebruik word om leerders in te lig van die ‘Vyf Goue reëls’.
  • Die prioritisering van dissipline in die klas is uiters belangrik en onderwysers moet verhoed dat leerders saamdrom in

             toilette en buite op die speelgronde.

  • Personeel, rekenaar en afrolkamer:
  1. Hierdie vertrekke mag gebruik word mits die personeel sosiale distansie handhaaf en hulle hande was en / of saniteer

             voordat hulle die vertrek binne gaan.

  1. Personeel moet hulle eie koppie, tee en koffie saambring.
  2. Alle toerusting moet gesaniteer word na gebruik.
  3. Saniteermiddels en natlappies moet beskikbaar wees vir die skoonmaak van toerusting.
  1. MARKING OF BOOKS / NASIEN VAN BOEKE:
  • According to the scientist and government the Covid-19 virus only have a life span of less than 72 hours?
  • There for if and when teachers take work in it should be place in a box or container and left untouched for 72 hours.

             Thereafter the teacher can mark the books / work. When the teacher has finish marking they must put it back in a box or    

             container and leave untouched for another 72 hours before handing it back to the learners.

  • We know this process can take time. We will thus make use of sheets of paper and not books where possible for work that

             needs to be marked and assess.

  • Learners must then keep the sheets in a file or container for safe keeping.
  • Learners may get these sheets of paper from the workbooks they have at the moment by cutting it out with scissors and

              not tearing out the pages.

 

  • Volgens wetenskaplikes het Covid-19 n lewensduur van 72 uur.
  • Onderwysers alle nasien werk in n houer plaas en dit ongesteurd daarin los vir 72 uur.

            Hierna kan dit uitgehaal en nagesien word; dit dan weer terugplaas in die houer en daarin hou vir 72 uur voordat die   

            werk weer uitgedeel word aan die leerders.

  • Omdat dit n langdurige proses is, word onderwysers aangemoedig om van los blaaie, in plaas van boeke, gebruik te

             maak vir assessering.

  • Leerders hou dan die blaaie in plastiek leêrs en / of houers vir veilige bewaring.
  • Indien los blaaie nie beskikbaar is nie kan leerders papier uit hul werkboeke knip.

 

  1.  TUCK SHOP / SNOEPIE:
  • There will be no tuck shop until further notice or until the WCED guidelines change.
  • Parents must make sure that they pack healthy lunch for the learners.
  • The school feeding scheme will also be available for the learners that are at school: Adhere to the procedure stipulated

              in the Basic Education Standard-Standard Operating Plan (SOP); point 5.2.4.

  • No birthday cakes and sweets are allowed until further notice.

 

  • Geen snoepie mag oop wees tot verdere kennisgewing nie.
  • Ouers word aangeraai om gesonde kospakkies vir hul kinders in te pak vir pouses.
  • Die voedingskema moet voortgaan met die voeding van leerlinge: Sien die voorskrifte soos uiteengesit in die Basiese

             Onderwys Standaard Operasionele Plan (SOP) punt 5.2.4. Kom dit streng na.

  • Geen verjaarsdae versnappings word toegelaat tot verdere kennisgewing nie.
  1. VISITORS / BESOEKERS:
  • All visitors, parents and vendors are not allowed to enter the school premises unless the nature of their visit is essential.
  • If essential such person must undergo the screening process, wear a mask and sanitize his/her hands.
  • They must report to reception and with the exception of government officials must make an appointment and state the

             nature of their business.

  • Regular communication with parents via newsletters, telephone calls, SMS’s, Whatsap messages, emails and any other

             method to minimize physical meetings with parents.

  • If it is necessary to meet with a parent, it should be limited to a single parent per learner and social distancing protocols

             must be adhered to.

  • The clothing bank can operate normal times on a Tuesday and Thursday.

 

  • Geen besoekers, ouers en smouse mag toegelaat word tensy dit noodsaaklik is nie.
  • Indien dit noodsaaklik is, moet sulke persone hulself onderwerp aan die skanderings proses, n masker dra en hulle                            

hande moet gesaniteer word.

  • Hulle moet dan by ontvangs rapporteer met die uitsondering van staatsamptenare wat vooraf n afspraak moet reël en

             hulle doel bekend maak.

  • Die skool moet gereeld met ouers kommunikeer d.m.v. nuusbriewe, telefoniese oproepe, telefoniese boodskappe (SMS’s,

            Watsapp, ens.), e-posse en / of enige ander manier om fisiese ontmoetings met ouers te verhoed en of te minimaliseer.

  • Wanneer daar wel met n ouer ontmoet word, is een ouer per kind toelaatbaar met sosiale distansie

             prosedures wat in ag geneem moet word, die dra van maskers en hand sanitering is n vereiste.

  • Die klerebank kan normaal voortgaan op Dinsdae en Donderdae met  sosiale distansie

             prosedures wat in ag geneem moet word, die dra van maskers en hand sanitering is n vereiste.

 

  1. SCHOOL FEES / SKOOLFONDS:
  • School fees are still payable for the whole year. It remains at R3600 per year, however arrangements can be made if

             your financial situation changed due to the COVID-19 Lockdown.

 

  • Dit is n vereiste dat skoolfooie van R3600.00 betaal moet word vir die jaar 2020, tensy jou finansiële omstandighede

              verander het a.g.v. die COVID-19 Inperking. Die verantwoordelikheid rus egter op die ouer om reëlings te tref met die

skool.

 

This policy is binding to the guidelines, procedures and regulations set out by the WCED, DBE or the President of South Africa. Therefor it will continuously be amended with new announcements made by the President of SA and the Minister of Education.

Darling Primary urges everybody to unite in this challenging and uncertain time in our fight against Covid-19. Together we can overcome this pandemic!

Hierdie beleid is in lyn met die riglyne, prosedures en regulasies soos uiteengesit in die Basiese Onderwys Standarde: SOP-Voorkoming van Covid-19.
